There were some interesting articles in the CIC International Newsletter No. 1/2000. The introduction is dedicated to the presentation of the new member State of CIC, Kyrgyzstan: located in Central Asia, it is a country rich with history and traditions, including hunting.
This is followed by the message from the President Dieter Schramm, who remarks how CIC is rightly the only international body, based on true friendships among its supporters, which really tends to show how hunting can coexist fairly with a correct management of the environment and its renewable resources.
The Newsletter also mentions the important Symposium held in the town of Lysa nad Laben, in the Czech Republic, as well as the celebrations held in Slovakia to commemorate the 80 year anniversary of the Slovakian hunting organisation. The 11th CITES Conference on the commercialisation of wild species is looked into great detail, while detailed news from each member State complete the overview, with information from the two international offices in Budapest and Paris.

THE ITALIAN CIC DELEGATION TOGETHER WITH THE ITALIAN PETIT GIBIER COMMISSION

  • In expectation of the necessity for a homogenous reference discipline for the whole territory through an ecological network with positive implications including the use of natural resources;
  • taking into consideration the requirements which arise on the basis of a European model of efficient farming able to safeguard the natural environment and provide a fundamental contribution to rural life;
  • noting the decreasing awareness of the value of the environment within the framework of a system of relationships of which the territory has become the reference point;
  • considering the prospects for development of farming able to promote the value of the production of goods and service within the territory;
  • assessing the importance of hunting as an extensive factor in the use of the territory and the possibility of enhancing specific environmental aspects through diversification of job activities and opportunities;

emphasise the need

  • to promote respect for education and social training, for local financial systems and manufacturing structures;
  • to support the development of sustainable farming able to safeguard ecological diversity and to make use of the opportunities present in the territory;
  • to create a plan which embraces the entire territorial system through building an ecological network which goes beyond the tools of passive defence and mere prohibition;
  • to link the promotion of hunting to the context of rural development.

48TH GENERAL MEETING OF PORTOROZ

The future appointments of CIC International will come to a close with the 48th General Meeting of Portoroz in Slovenia, which will be held from the 1st - 6th May 2001.
Before this important gathering, there will be the significant Budapest Symposium on the 24th/25th March 2001, organised by the Cynegetic Commission in Art, History and Museums: this will be an occasion to understand more about the culture of Central and Eastern European Countries.

Meanwhile, through the operative Bureau of Budapest and with the influential help from the Paris office, special sectorial seminars will look into all the main topics. Driven by the Presidency, the Italian Delegation has arranged a seminar for next February on the petit gibier (small non-migratory species) and the management of the territory. As the first meeting of the year 2001, it will coincide with a dinner specially organised by the Game Gastronomy Commission in Milan. It will be held during the first half of the month in the prestigious rooms of Palazzo Isimbardi, the seat of Province.

This will be followed by the meeting of the Italian members at the end of March, so as to prepare adequately for the Portoroz General Meeting in next May.
